Material: This piece is made with a fountain pen, smaller ink pens, and shading gray colors to complete the final piece

Process: I originally started working on this piece with it centered around rabbits. The first digital skeleton drawing I did of a jackalope, inspired me to do the second drawing, a depiction of a rabbit sitting on top of a chopped tree. This piece was drawn closer to the style in my final piece, with pen and ink. While this definitely depicted the human impact on nature, it did not align more with my inquiry question, so I decided to center my final rendition of the piece around a human skull. Finally, I used a fountain pen, smaller ink pens, and shading gray colors to complete the final piece. To add highlights, I went back in with a highlighter pen.

Idea: I wanted to showcase the human's connection to nature after death, and how the fear of death negatively impacts the human view of nature, and in turn, the human psyche. Death is not only represented by the skull, but by the nightshade surrounding the skull, bringing the idea that death symbolizes nature. This affects the human psyche because we may fear nature, and associate it with danger, the effects of these dangerous elements may cause humans to stray from it. The piece is supposed to represent the inevitability of death from nature, which will find us even when we do not embrace nature. Ferrets have symbolized resourcefulness and discovery, so while my support pieces are centered around a rabbit, here it is seen as a ferret. The aspect of discovery is supposed to symbolize the realization of death, and the new love you can find in nature after pushing past that hard pill to swallow. Resourcefulness is what you are able to achieve with this new discovery, in our vast but limited world.
